Week 2 overview

The annual Coventry Peace Festival takes place from 1-14 November to help the city celebrate Coventry's unique role as a City of Peace, Reconciliation and Equality and includes the 75th Anniversary of the Coventry Blitz and the inaugural RISING 2015 Global Peace Forum.

The final week of the Coventry Peace Festival once again has an eclectic mix of events finishing with the Blitz75 events on Saturday 14 November.

The Godiva Trust will be sharing a short video that gives an insight into how people from various communities in Coventry view peace, as they offer their messages of peace to us all. With messages in more than eight languages, participation from some of our twin cities including Coventry, with citizens with an age range of 3 months to 90+ years, this film brings together a collective view that represents the rich diversity of our city. Koco Community Resource Centre holds the Peace Gallery and explores the theme of "How do we bring peace in our everyday lives?" with a workshop from 11am to 2.30pm

The RISING 15 Global Peace Forum takes place in Coventry from the 11-13 November. For full programme and information please follow the link below

The annual Armistice Day Poppy Drop happens at 11am on the 11 November in West Orchards Shopping Centre with a 2 minute silence and four thousand  poppies dropped from the dome at the top of the shopping centre. .  

We have two craft events taking part this week, Creating Hanging Origami Doves on Wednesday 11 and a Peace and Culture Fashion Show on Friday 13.

The "Peace" edition of the "Title Ruse" film festival starts at 7pm at The Tin at the Coal Vaults on Wednesday 11. This includes a selection of short films from around the world exploring the themes of peace.   

Call it Out! is a workshop exploring responses to bullying which is taking place in Broad Street Library on Thursday from 4pm to 6pm.

Friday 13 November has Coventry Friends of Palestine holding a Pop Up Shop in City Arcade until Sunday 15 November. 

Indelible Marks: The Dresden Project by Monica Petzal and 75 Years exhibition at The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum from Friday 13 November until Sunday 7 February 2016.

Also on the 13 November is Troubling Stories - and why we need to tell them from 12 noon at the Shop Front Theatre, City Arcade, which has a panel discussion on how and why film-makers, writers and other creative artists are driven to portray real-life events in their work

Radio Plus once again hold their Performance Poetry Evening on the evening of 13 November at 7pm after the success of last year's event. This includes an open mic element for local poets and live streaming of the event online.

IMAGINEER with Coventry Cathedral present two performances of Carmen Funebre (Funeral Song) and Liberty on the former Bond Street car park (not University Square, as in the brochure) Performances start at 6.30pm and 9pm.

The 14 November has the Positive Images Festival - Peace Messages from Coventry at the Hope Centre from 12 noon until 4pm and The Shop Front Theatre in City Arcade presents a fascinating creative research project called The Sleeping Place from 1pm to 3pm focusing on the London Road Cemetery with stories from families, workers and local archives connected with the cemetery since its opening in 1847. This is an ongoing project

As part of the Blitz75 commemorations on Saturday 14, The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum are holding a Second World War Family Day from 10am to 4pm,

The Human Chain of Peace and Light is in University Square at 6.30pm (bring a torch or mobile phone to use as a light) followed by Mozart:Requiem and Solemn Vespers in Coventry Cathedral at 7.30pm.
