Business growth in Biggleswade has been given a boost after Central Bedfordshire Council's Executive unanimously approved the sale of land on Stratton Business Park.
This latest development to the area, known as Phase 5, will enable two local businesses to purchase up to 20 acres of land to realise their growth plans and generate new local employment opportunities.
An estimated investment of up to £2million will also be made in access infrastructure and mark another step towards the wider development of Stratton Business Park, already a key business location. The long term development of Stratton Business Park could eventually generate up to 3,500 jobs, and make a significant contribution to the council's jobs growth target of 27,000 new jobs by 2031.
Deputy Leader Cllr Maurice Jones said: "This is another big boost to council's wider regeneration aspirations for the area and supports our ambition to make Biggleswade a great place to live and work.
"We place great importance on supporting local business and this represents an opportunity to expand their operations and to provide local employment opportunities.
“In supporting the expansion of businesses in Biggleswade the sale of these plots of land will help make a valuable contribution to the local economy and to jobs growth."
