Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive has approved plans to expand Roecroft Lower School, in Stotfold, by 150 places.

The decision, which was taken at yesterday’s meeting, means that the capacity at the lower school in Buttercup Road will increase from 300 to 450 children from September 2015.

The plans were approved following an extensive consultation which saw more than 60 per cent of respondents, which included parents and residents, in favour of expanding the lower school.

Councillor Mark Versallion, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “I am delighted that the plans to expand Roecroft Lower School have been approved, as there is an urgent need for extra lower school places in the Stotfold area.

"With a growing population in Central Bedfordshire we estimate our school population will increase by around 6,500 over the next five years and a key role for the council is to ensure that all our children have a place at a good local school.

“We are committed to investing in our future and helping Bedfordshire children to reach their potential.  That is why we are spending more than £100million over the next five years on providing new school places.”
