Birmingham
celebrates National Paralympic Day - 30 August. Centenary Square will
bustle with activity from 11am - 5pm as Brum hosts a range of free
activities that the whole family can get involved in and enjoy, plus a chance to
meet Paralympic heroes such as Dan Greaves and Mickey Bushell.
British
Science Festival 6 - 11 September. With activities for families, adults looking for
thought-provoking entertainment and stimulating debate, or professionals
interested in the latest research, the British Science Festival offers
something for everyone.
The City of Birmingham 10k and
5k Fun Run,
Sutton Park, 7 September. An ideal forerunner for the Birmingham Half Marathon.

Turner Prize winning artist Susan
Philipsz installs a new site specific work at Eastside Projects with
the sounds of instruments damaged in World War I. In the second gallery
Sandwell based Polish artist Rafal Zar exhibits his new body of paintings.
New contemporary Creative Dance classes
for adults and children hosted at Brum’s Dance Workshop studios. Classes run
weekly, following an introductory workshop on 10 September, 8.30pm.

The Bupa Great Birmingham Run takes place on Sunday 19 October so enter now for a city centre half
marathon to remember! Featuring a Junior and Mini event too, for youngsters
aged 3-16 years of age.

Changes to recycling and refuse service - If you are a resident
of Hodge Hill, Hall Green or Yardley district - there’s important information
on changes to your recycling and refuse collections on the city council website via the link.
Watch our Wheelie bin roll-out video - Young people from TNT News have worked with Birmingham City Council to produce an information video on the roll-out of wheelie bins to households in the Hall Green, Hodge Hill and Yardley districts later this year.

running its first cycle Rewards Challenge from
September. Earn BikeMiles, compete with your friends or just keep a track of
your own journeys using our brand new website and mobile app.

Birmingham
visitor figures hit record high. Birmingham attracted a
record 34 million visitors last year, according to new figures released by
Marketing Birmingham’s research arm the Regional Observatory, and tourism
research body, Global Tourism Solutions.

Inactivity is a bigger challenge than obesity.
Birmingham’s new physical activity champion, Dr Ewan Hamnett has labelled
inactivity an even bigger challenge to the city than obesity. Read more and

Moving
Forward Together 2014 Opportunities Fair, 30 September and 1 October. This is a vibrant,
inclusive and interactive event, promoting independence and support. Open to
all Birmingham people, but with the emphasis on those who have care needs and
their carers.
Birmingham Victim Support is holding a Quiz Night at
Kings Heath Cricket Club on 26 September, raising funds to support victims of
crime. £3 per person, teams of up to 6. Contact
