Witness world class athletes in action at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on 24 August! 

Summer in Southside 2014 promises to bring you the very best in FREE outdoor theatre, dance, circus and music. Come along in August and treat your senses to some unexpected surprises in an electrifying atmosphere.

Free drop-in animation workshop with Fantastic Mr Fox animator – Tim Allen at mac Birmingham - 2 Aug. He’ll share his plasticine model making skills with children, who will bring them to life with Stop Motion software.

Sherlock Jr + Cops. 2 August, Library of Birmingham. A rare opportunity to enjoy silent film as intended – on the big screen with live piano accompaniment. Two of Buster Keaton’s greatest comedies will be shown for your viewing pleasure.

Eastside Projects: Current Exhibitions on until Saturday 2 August.  ‘Only a Free Individual Can Create a Free Society’, a new film by Grace Schwindt and ‘Pleasure, Devotion, Balance’ by group Mexico.

Clockwork by National Storytelling Laureate Katrice Horsley, 15 August, Library of Birmingham. Using poetry and song, lyrical teller Katrice creates an orchestra of voice to tell the tale of a land where dreams are controlled by the ruling wordsmiths.

Dubbed ‘The happiest 5k on the planet’, The Color Run on the 16 August is an un-timed celebration of health and colour, meaning groups of friends can walk, jog, dance and party their way along the course at any pace.

Dome Club Planetarium at The Drum21 Aug. Fly to the edge of the Universe in an unforgettable 360 degrees experience with Dome Club Planetarium. Explore the stars, walk on the Moon, and maybe even meet some aliens!

Wicked at Birmingham Hippodrome until 6 Sept. Packed with thrilling technical wizardry, dazzling costumes, an ingenious and witty story, and show-stopping songs, Wicked is an unforgettable, enchanting experience that is not to be missed.

Chilli Festival – 19 and 20 September in Brindleyplace.  This free family event features a chilli-inspired food market, chilli eating contest, live music, street entertainment and live cooking demonstrations from Brindleyplace restaurants.

Brum Tunnels reminder: Don't forget, the A38 tunnels through Birmingham are now closed until 6am 1 Sept. Visit the website for alternative travel routes and info.

Just a tap away for repairs. Council tenants can now report all non-urgent repairs and select appointment slots with just a few taps on their keyboard, thanks to the new online self-service system.

Have your say the on ‘pinch points’ on Birmingham Ring Road and at Holloway Circus. The proposals to ease congestion at four junctions – Bordesley Circus, Curzon Circle, Haden Circus and Holloway Circus – will be reported on early September 2014.

Audio‘See Me, Hear me’ campaign launched by WM Councils to combat child sexual exploitation across the region. Organisations hope to protect children at risk by increasing people’s understanding of child sexual exploitation and how to spot the warning signs in a child’s behaviour.

New website offers housing advice. Birmingham Housing Options offers a one-stop shop for advice and information to social housing tenants, private tenants and homeowners.
