Birmingham’s
Chinese community welcomes in the Year of the Monkey with Chinese New Year celebrations,
from 12noon-6pm on Sunday 7 February. The event will feature traditional
Chinese music, lion dancers, acrobats, martial artists and more.
Why not
spoil the one you love with a romantic visit to Highbury Hall
for its Valentine’s
Day Afternoon Tea on 14 February? Enjoy a glass of champagne and a
selection of canapes on arrival, followed by a special selection of sandwiches
and cakes, served with tea or coffee.
The Caravan, Camping
& Motorhome Show 2016, from 23-28 February at the NEC,
is the UK’s biggest start-of-season showcase of caravans, motorhomes,
campervans, trailer tents, folding caravans, and more!
Set to Prokofiev’s soaring score, Kenneth MacMillan’s best-loved adaptation of Romeo and Juliet continues Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 2016 Shakespeare celebration, from 24-27 February at Birmingham Hippodrome.
What Career
Live? What University Live?
is a new event for 15-19-year-olds to help them decide what to do after leaving
school: whether it’s an apprenticeship, training programme or heading to
university after A Levels. The event’s at the NEC on 26 and 27 February.

transforming community, form the Janet Mendelsohn –
Varna Road exhibition at the Ikon Gallery, until 3 April.
Richard Woods’ ‘Duck
Weave’ is a new
development in the internationally renowned artist’s use of materials,
patterns, logos and motifs. Eastside Projects presents the
first research stages of Woods’ technique as the inaugural display of its
Production Show 2016-18.

The garden
waste collection service starts on 22 February. If you haven’t done so yet,
you can book your fortnightly collections now. Do it online and get a £2
discount off the £35 subscription.
How will your neighbourhood be affected by ward boundary changes? You have until 8 February to take a
look at the new ward map and have a say on the
Boundary Commission’s proposals.
The
West Midlands Combined
Authority (WMCA), where seven local councils are working together to
boost jobs, skills, transport and homes in the region, is consulting on its
proposed role and functions. Have your say by 8 February here.
Burn off any
Christmas excess or teach the kids to ride! Birmingham Cycle Revolution has
selected its favourite traffic free city cycling routes to
suit all ages and abilities. Before you start, get advice on checking your bike and staying safe.
The Department
for Transport and West Midlands Rail wants your views on the future of rail
services and stations in the West Midlands franchise area (those currently
operated by London Midland). You can find out more here.
Over the
next three months, the speed limit on residential roads and local centres in large
parts of central, south and east Birmingham will be changing to 20mph. It’s part of a
long-term strategy to make it safer for residents to move around their
neighbourhoods.
