Lord Mayor

What's On & Leisure

The Lord Mayor’s Show, 6 June, 11am – 5pm, Council House and Victoria Square. The theme for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show is Women and Faith: Commemorating the Role of Women and Faith in the First World War.

Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix. Tickets still available to see Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill, Christine Ohuruogu and Greg Rutherford live at the Alexander Stadium on 7 June!

Highbury Hall hosts three great events in June with The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on 14 June, Cocktails, Canapés and Conjuring on 19 June and Father’s Day – Gentleman’s Tea, 21 June. Information on prices and booking tickets is on the website here.

Seun Kuti + Egypt 80. The youngest son of Afrobeat founder and legend Fela Kuti, brings his father’s 16 piece funk fuelled orchestra, Egypt 80 and the spirit and beats of Africa to The Drum on 14 June.

BE FESTIVAL offers a unique programme of theatre, dance, circus, music, food, visual and more. Celebrating European culture, the festival takes place in Birmingham REP June 23 – 27. Help launch the festival, join the Thunderclap campaign here.

Show your support at this year’s Armed Forces Day which takes place on 27 June in Centenary Square.

Saturday Studio at the IKON. 27 June, 2 - 4.30pm, £6 per person. A new regular practical session devised especially for adults. Explore creative approaches to making art in response to Ikon’s current exhibition by Pavel Büchler.

Read May’s Organisational Improvement Action Plan highlight report. The report provides an update on the progress we are making against the Year One Action plan, which is being monitored by the Birmingham Independent Improvement Panel.

Wheelie bin collections to start in North Birmingham. Residents living in the districts of Erdington, Perry Barr and Sutton Coldfield are being reminded that wheelie bin collections start in their neighbourhoods from the start of June.

Next steps for Paradise. A new set of road measures have come into operation supporting the Paradise redevelopment with access changes affecting Paradise Circus, Sand Pits/Parade, Broad Street and Summer Row.

Birmingham City Council has scooped Gold at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show for the fourth year running for its spectacular display celebrating 300 years of Birmingham Cathedral. Birmingham was also presented with the Diamond Jubilee Award for the best exhibit in the Grand Pavilion.

Birmingham City Council new Cabinet confirmed. The city council's new Cabinet and other committee line-ups were officially announced at the authority's Annual General Meeting on 19 May. Read more on the Newsroom here

Town Council ballot for Sutton Coldfield. Residents on the electoral register in Sutton Coldfield will be taking part in a consultative postal vote from 25 June to give their opinion on whether they want a town council for their area.
