METRO Offers Media Preview of North Light Rail

Trains testing at Burnett Station

Friday, Dec. 6 members of Houston's press corps will be escorted for a preview of METRO's new North/Red Light-rail Line.

METRORail is inviting local media to ride its new second-generation H2 train and see first-hand the construction progress on the soon-to-open North/Red Line FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2013 from 9 to 11:15AM. The tour will depart from UH-Downtown Station to ride the 5.3-mile light-rail extension to Northline TC/HCC and back.

METRORail personnel will be on hand during the tour to explain the construction process for the new extended system

METRORail staff continue conducting extensive tests of track, vehicles and signaling equipment as well as other safety components of the line. Emergency operations and service simulations are also part of the on-going training. Operators, supervisors and controllers, meanwhile, are training to be certified on the new segment traveling N. Main from downtown and up Fulton to Crosstimbers. The above activities are all in the final stages leading to scheduled passenger service in late December.
