KIDS' METRORAIL SAFETY BOOK HITS LIBRARY SHELVES

Open Your Brain bookcover

As new rail lines prepare to open community education remains top priority for METRO

All elementary schools on Houston’s three new light-rail lines are on board to receive multiple bright-orange copies of METRORail’s Open Your Brain safety book, part of METRO’s nationally acclaimed Think Rail safety program.

"The Open Your Brain book is one of many ways METRO is reaching out to even our youngest neighbors with a strong safety message,” said Mike Martinez, who directs community outreach for METRO's rail expansion program. “We developed the Think Rail safety program to educate children of all ages, along with parents, teachers and staff, about how to interact with these new light-rail lines.”

All neighborhood libraries in the Houston Public Library system (HPL), along with 26 public and private elementary schools located on the three new lines, have received copies of Open Your Braina catchy, rhyming book based on METRO’s award-winning safety video of the same name. With content geared to elementary students it teaches young people important lessons. Elementary schools will have Open Your Brain in each classroom library.  Main school libraries will have copies available for student check out. The book is also available for checkout at the Houston Public Library Downtown Branch, and browsing at all other HPL locations.

METRO’s Think Rail program recently picked up two Grand Awards and two first place awards from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). For more information on the program, visit www.gometrorail.org.
