About the Auction:
For 175 years Harris County has held its monthly auction of tax
delinquent properties outside the Family Law Center in the downtown courthouse
complex. As many as 300 to 500 people
historically attend the auction and the outdoor “courthouse steps” location had
become overcrowded and uncomfortable for participants
Unlike historic auctions on the courthouse steps, the new
sale will be indoors in air conditioned space, and seating will be available
for bidders.
Also moving will be the monthly sale of foreclosed
properties conducted by trustees for various lending institutions, and the
auction of other real estate ordered sold by the courts in various civil
lawsuits.
A public ceremony dedicating the new auction venue will be
held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the Bayou City Event Center, and actual
sales conducted by each of the eight Harris County Constable Precincts and
lending institution trustees begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m.
New electronic technology to be unveiled at the auction will
enable prospective bidders at the delinquent tax auction to see photos and
other information about the properties as they come up for sale during the day,
and to track the sequence in which properties will be sold by each of the eight
Constables.
Detailed information about the auction, including bidder
registration requirements and a list of properties to be sold, can be found on
the Harris County Tax Office website.
