METRO's Next Generation of Buses Offers a Greener Way to Ride

METRO is making history for the Houston region as it unveils its newest generation of buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG.) The 50 new CNG buses join METRO’s fleet of 1220 buses which include clean diesel and hybrid vehicles. The agency is also celebrating the grand opening of one of the largest CNG refueling stations in Texas.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Jan. 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. Members of the media may tour buses and the refueling facility and there will be opportunities to speak with METRO leaders, Freedom CNG representatives and elected officials.

The event will highlight the partnership between METRO and Freedom CNG, a Texas-based alternative fuel provider, to promote clean air initiatives. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, CNG-fueled vehicles produce 20 percent less carbon dioxide and 70 percent less carbon monoxide than their diesel-fuel counterparts.
