New MPD Connect App Puts Safety in Passengers Hands

The METRO Police Department (MPD) is just a few clicks away with today's launch of "MPD Connect."  The new app is free, easy to download on any mobile device or desktop computer, and allows users who see something to say something - discreetly.

"Safety is METRO's top priority for passengers and employees," said MPD Chief Vera Bumpers.  "This new tool provides another option for riders who see suspicious activity or other unexpected incidents on the transit system, but we remind everyone to dial 911 in a real emergency."

The app offers two options for patrons.  Users can submit a report directly to METRO Police by simply filling out a short form or they can chat live via text messaging during manned hours.  "MPD Connect" is available in iTunes and Android app stores.

"METRO's IT department worked in conjunction with METRO Police to create this app and we encourage our riders to use it to alert authorities to any security or safety concerns on our system," said METRO Chief Information Officer Denise Wendler.
