METRO bus operator Patricia Moon is helping put socks in the hands of the homeless during this holiday season.
Moon is on a mission to hand out 10,000 socks to homeless individuals the day before Christmas through her "Put A Sock In It" organization. She began this annual tradition in 2009 when she noticed a homeless person on the street, barefoot in cold weather.

"Giving socks to people who need them warms my heart because they are so appreciative of the small things," said Bus operator Patricia Moon. "These are small items we often take for granted."

Bus operator Moon collects socks for one month by leaving baskets at several METRO facilities and partner institutions like Rice University and the Houston Community College Coleman Campus, where she attends school.
After Moon collects the baskets full of socks, she sorts and places them into Christmas bags. Moon and other METRO volunteers drive to several locations where the homeless congregate to distribute warmth to those in need.
