August is Commute Solutions Month and METRO STAR is partnering
with the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) to celebrate the thousands of commuters
who clear 60 million miles of travel from our highways by committing their rides to regional vanpools.
Everyday thousands of Houston-area commuters use STAR vanpool services to get to and from work on its 700 plus routes. According
to Veronica Baxter-Lamb of the Houston-Galveston Area Council, “STAR vanpools
also remove about 46 million pounds of pollution from our air each year,
improving the way we breathe, offering an important commute solutions option
for our residents”.
To thank vanpool commuters, METRO STAR is hosting its first-ever appreciation celebration. The month-long event will feature prizes and giveaways for commuters who participate in a vanpool during the month of August. METRO President & CEO, Tom Lambert expressed his excitement about the program's celebration stating, "Vanpool is one of the most efficient and flexible services METRO offers. It is easily expandable based on need and allows METRO to extend services to an eight county region outside our bus and rail service areas as part of our multi-modal approach to transit. It's a win-win for METRO and the community!"

Anyone who participates in a vanpool can win. Commuters who vanpool at least once during August will be entered to win one of 100 gift cards. Those who volunteer to drive their vanpool routes stand to win even bigger prizes. Newly established vanpool groups will receive one month free! |
"By vanpooling to work instead of driving their own cars, commuters in the Houston area have already saved an estimated $8 million* in 2015. They also reclaim hours of their free time each week to read, catch up on work, or chat with a friend." said David McMaster, Director of Commuter Services at METRO.
For more information on how to reclaim some of your time or money spent during your commute, contact METRO STAR at 713-224-RIDE.
METRO STAR is a regional vanpool service sponsored by METRO and serving commute to work trips that originate and/or end in the eight county Houston-Galveston Transportation Management Area (including Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller counties.)
