Pilot Program Extends Hours for METRO HOV/HOT Lanes

On Wednesday, July 1, 2015, METRO will begin a 90-day pilot program extending the operating hours for HOV/HOT Lanes along the IH-45 South (Gulf), US-59 Southwest, US-290 Northwest, IH-45 North and US-59 North (Eastex) corridors.

Once finalized, the pilot program will weigh customer reaction and traffic flow improvements to determine whether the extended hours will become permanent.

Current operating hours of METRO's HOV/HOT Lanes are 5 a.m to 11 a.m. inbound and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. outbound on all corridors, Monday through Friday. Lanes are closed on weekends.

During the 90-day pilot program, weeknight operation of the HOV/HOT lanes will expand from 8 to 11 p.m. outbound. All lanes will be open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the inbound direction.

Toll rates for single occupant vehicles during extended hours and on weekends will be $1.00.  Vehicles with two or more occupants can use the lanes for free.

The pilot program is scheduled to end September 30, 2015.
