Health Wildcatters and Tech Wildcatters open new headquarters downtown

Health Wildcatters, the mentor-based seed accelerator company, hosted 24 Dallas area healthcare startups as the inaugural event at the company's new downtown headquarters. Health Wildcatters and Tech Wildcatters now occupy 18,000 SF of office space at 211 N. Ervay Street, where a once vacant 18-story tower was recently transformed into offices and retail space. Forty Five Ten to relocate downtown

Forty Five Ten, the designer fashion boutique and home goods retailer, is relocating from 4510 McKinney Avenue to a 45,000 SF historic three-story building on Main Street downtown. The new store will be more than five times larger than their current location. Source: Dallas Morning News, August 7, 2014.

New office tower planned for Turtle Creek

Houston-based developer M-M Properties plans to build an office tower on Turtle Creek Boulevard at Cedar Springs Road. The tower is planned to be more than 12-stories and was designed by Houston-based Ziegler Cooper Architects. Source: Dallas Morning News, August 20, 2014.

Work continues on Oak Cliff streetcar project

Construction continues on the 1.6-mile Oak Cliff streetcar line to connect downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff via the Houston Street viaduct. The line will link stops at Methodist Hospital and the Bishop Arts district to Union Station downtown. Initial service is scheduled to begin by March 2015. PSW Real Estate planning additional projects in Dallas

Austin-based PSW Real Estate plans to expand operations within Dallas by building more than 150 craftsman-style homes. In addition to two neighborhoods in North Oak Cliff currently under construction, in 2015 the company will break ground on two additional developments near White Rock Lake. Crow Holdings building industrial park in Southwest Dallas

Crow Holdings Capital Partners is developing a 2-building, 87-acre industrial park on Grady Niblo Road at Mountain Creek Blvd. The project is planned for 1.3 million SF of distribution and warehouse space. Source: Dallas Morning News, July 30, 2014.

More development planned for South Side neighborhood

Since the former Sears building on Lamar Street was converted into the South Side on Lamar lofts in the summer of 2000, development has continued in Dallas' South Side neighborhood. The once vacant industrial district has been revived with hundreds of new apartments, and will soon be home to a new 8-screen Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. Business News

LCM Group announces Dallas expansion

Asset management firm LCM Group is expanding to Dallas, citing the area's high demand for alternative investment management companies and pro-business climate. The company will open an office at Old Parkland in August and plans to hire additional employees within the next five years. Source: Dallas Business Journal, July 24, 2014.

Largest U.S. street art gallery expands to Dallas

Los Angeles-based Lab Art, the largest gallery in the U.S. dedicated to street art and graffiti, is expanding to Dallas. The company will open a 4,500 SF gallery in the Design District in September. Source: Culture Map Dallas, July 24, 2014.

General News

DART begins light-rail service to D/FW Airport

D/FW Airport Station, the final segment of the DART Orange Line, opened August 18. The new stop is DART's 62nd light-rail station, and connects DFW Airport to DART's 13 member cities. D/FW Airport has 60,000 workers on-site and is the fourth busiest airport in the nation. Source: Dallas Morning News, August 15, 2014.

City Household Employment Increases

  • The preliminary total of employed Dallas residents increased to 571,984.
  • This is a 3,081-worker increase from last month's revised resident employment total of 568,903.
  • While total household employment rose moderately, the unemployment rate also rose 0.1% due to additional growth in the labor force.
