Ciao Telecom to relocate North American HQ to Dallas

Ciao Telecom recently signed a lease to move its North American headquarters to Dallas from Emeryville, California. The global telecommunications provider will be leasing 22,000 sq. ft. at 8390 LBJ Freeway on the southeast corner of LBJ and US-75. Source: Dallas Business Journal, Sept 24, 2013.

Reunion Tower’s GeO-Deck reopens to new, returning visitors

One of the most distinctive landmarks in the Dallas Skyline has undergone renovation and is again open to the public. The observation deck at Reunion Tower – now named GeO-Deck for geodesic, observation and deck – reopened October 5th after a multimillion dollar renovation. Victory Park apartment project just weeks away from start

Camden Property Trust will begin construction on their Victory Park apartment complex any day now. The 423 units will be on the parking lot just north of American Airlines Center. Dallas area tops the country in office vacancy declines

The office vacancy rate in the Dallas area dropped more than any other US city in the third quarter. The CBRE Group study found office demand in the expansion of professional service, insurance, technology and financial services firms. Source: Dallas Morning News, Sept 25, 2013.

Boutique ‘Dream’ hotel planned for Uptown

A 16-story boutique hotel is planned to begin construction in January in Uptown. The hotel will be owned by a joint venture including New York-based Hampshire Hotels and several unnamed Dallas investors. The team sees in Uptown a bustling streetlife similar to other Dream Hotel locations in Miami and New York. Source: Dallas Morning News, Oct 10, 2013.

Dallas City Council approves free shuttle service to link Downtown with the Bishop Arts District

On Nov 3rd, just in time for the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the 2-year pilot project will commence service. Fourteen stops will be served from 11:30 am to 11 pm Monday through Saturday. The $1.4 million project is funded through a partnership between the city ($400,000), DART ($452,000), Downtown Dallas, Inc ($306,000) and a grant. Source: Dallas Morning News, Sept 25, 2013.

Drawn by the dynamics of Dallas’ Cedars neighborhood, SkyWalker buys the 110-year-old Hughes Brothers Candy Factory

SkyWalker Property, acting on behalf of the Hangover Opportunity Fund, recently purchased the 110-year-old Hughes Brothers Candy Factory, with plans to start construction within 9 months. The group is planning $3.2 million of investment to convert the former factory at 1401 S. Ervay St. into residential units. Source: CityBizList Dallas, Oct 14, 2013.

Children’s Adventure Garden another educational gem for Dallas

Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden opened Saturday September 21st as on of Dallas’ top children’s educational centers.  The 17 themed galleries and 150 interactive exhibits operate on the premise that learning is best retained when concepts are explained in terms children can understand, kids can interact, play and work with a concept, so the children can make real-world connections. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines counts days until Wright amendment repeal at Dallas Love Field

In 1980 the Wright Amendment restricted Southwest Airlines to nonstop flights from Dallas Love Field to airports in Texas and four bordering states: Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico and Arkansas. In 2006 a compromise was finally reached between Southwest Airlines, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, American Airlines Inc., and the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth: the Wright Amendment would expire in eight years. The most surprising foodie neighborhood in Dallas? Lower Greenville

Retail on lower Greenville Avenue is comprised of an eclectic collection of restaurants, catering to a variety of dietary and culinary specialties. In the recent past the area had been known for its bar scene, but changes in the streetscape design and zoning restrictions that require businesses to obtain a special permit for late-night service have encouraged a thriving restaurant scene. National and Regional Home Prices Increase

Home Prices

  • Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) 2013 second quarter House Price Index (HPI) reflects that house prices rose 2.1 percent from the previous quarter
  • Within the Dallas area, the HPI reflects a 2.3 percent rise in house prices
  • Since 2010,  the Dallas housing market has exhibited a stronger  recovery than the nation as a whole
