Get Visible!

As we draw nearer and nearer to the winter solstice coming up this month, it's common sense that extra measures are needed to ensure bicyclists are visible on the roads.  It's a good idea to equip yourself and your bike with lights and reflectors to enhance visibility and keep you safe.  Plus, it's the law.

Jefferson Avenue Bikeway

This month, the City will host three public meetings on the application of potential traffic calming treatments on the western portion of Jefferson Avenue.  Each public meeting will focus on a particular segment of Jefferson as follows: December 6 (Mississippi River Boulevard to Finn Street), December 12 (Finn Street to Fairview Avenue), and December 13 (Fairview Avenue to Snelling Avenue).  All meetings will take place at Nativity School from 7:00-8:30pm.  There will also be an online survey for citizens to share their opinions of these traffic calming treatments that will be live from the first meeting on December 6 through the end of the month. For the latest on the Jefferson Avenue Bikeway, please see: www.stpaul.gov/jefferson.

Griggs Street Bikeway

If you're resolving to get more involved in your community in the new year, mark your calendar for the January meetings for the Griggs Street Bikeway.  On January 10, staff will share and answer questions about the final design proposal for the bike boulevard.  The following week, on January 18, the City Council will hold a public hearing on whether they should vote to approve the design.  Come testify and share your opinions!  For more information, please see: www.stpaul.gov/griggs.

Bike-n-Ride

As the darkness descends and the weather becomes more challenging, remember the bus is your friend.  All Metro Transit buses are equipped with bike racks.  These each hold two bikes.  But, if the racks appear full, don’t despair, just ask the driver if you may bring your bike aboard.  While the driver may determine that your bike can’t fit safely during the time you’re trying to ride, it’s worth a shot!
