Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project: Milwaukie quiet zone goes into effect Friday, May 1, 2015

On May 1, 2015, a rail quiet zone, where freight and light rail trains only need to sound their horns in case of emergency, goes into effect at these Milwaukie rail crossings:

  • Mailwell Drive in the Milwaukie North Industrial Area
  • Harrison, Monroe and Washington streets, and 21st Avenue at Adams Street in Downtown Milwaukie

In a quiet zone, freight and light rail operators are not required to blow their horns as they approach a crossing, although they may use the horn at their discretion.

Always expect a train–even if you don’t hear a horn.

Be safe to stay safe!

  • Obey all signals at these crossings
  • Remain behind safety gate arms
  • Do not attempt to cross as the safety gate arms lower or while bells or lights are on
