 Greetings from House District 32!!

As the weather starts to improve, it’s a great time to visit the North Oregon Coast, and this summer promises to be busy!

I was honored to be able to join World War II veterans and their families in Salem last Friday when the Oregon World War II Memorial was unveiled in a ceremony on the grounds of the State Capitol. Several hundred people, including Governor John Kitzhaber were on hand for the dedication which occurred on the 70th anniversary of D-Day.   The memorial features a 33-foot tall gray granite obelisk at its center, symbolizing Oregon's status as the 33rd state in the union. Its polished black granite walls are etched with the names of all 3,771 Oregonians killed in combat during the war. Visitors can search a database of veterans' names. Those killed in action and are on the memorial wall, but the hope is to eventually add all Oregonians who served during World War II.

Graduation celebrations have been taking place throughout House District 32 for the past couple of weeks, with high school seniors being awarded diplomas, and Community College graduates receiving academic degrees of excellence!   It is such an exciting time for these scholars as they accomplish one goal on the way to pursuing their dreams and opportunities. I want to add my congratulations for all 2014 graduates, and hope for the best for each and everyone’s future! Education is so vital for the success of each our citizens and communities as a whole, that it remains one of my top priories, and I will continue my work to keep tuition costs low and affordable.

Oregon’s coast is a popular tourist destination, and I’m looking forward to many visitors in the coming weeks.   The 2014 American Legion State of Oregon Annual Convention will be held in Seaside at the end of this month, and will be a time to welcome the veteran’s who have served our country so honorably.   This is just one of many special events that will bring an influx of people and traffic to our area. Please be careful when driving, roads are busier than usual, and many drivers are unfamiliar with our beautiful area.   Remember to plan for enough travel time so you don’t have to rush to your destination.

The legislative interim period is a good time to propose new legislative concepts.   If you have a concern or problem that needs a legislative “fix” this is the best time to bring that idea forward.   Some of the best ideas for new laws come from constituents, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

You can write, phone or email my office, even when we are not in the Capitol, I do check my messages regularly.   It is my privilege to represent you in the Oregon House of Representatives, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,

Deborah Boone
