Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As you may have heard, Senate President Courtney and Speaker of the House Kotek have created a "Joint Committee on the Special Session" for the purpose of holding informational and public hearings on the bills (currently "concepts) to be considered in the special session on September 30.

The Joint Committee will meet on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Thursday’s meeting will have an informational hearing on PERS and GMO pre-emption.  The informational hearing will be followed by a public hearing, where members of the public may sign up to speak on ANY of the concepts under consideration on Thursday and Friday.  Thursday's meeting will begin at 2:15 PM in Hearing Room A and will go into the evening (perhaps with a break for dinner).

Friday’s meeting will focus on Revenue, the Small Business Tax Cut, and Appropriations. It begins at 9AM in Hearing Room A.  Again, the informational hearing will be followed by a public hearing during which public testimony will be taken on any portion of the special session package, not just the topics of the day.

If you want to testify, you can sign up in Hearing Room A.  If you want to follow the proceedings from a distance,  you can watch the committee online.  Click Hearing Room A and the video will load.

If you are watching from a mobile device, you can access a mobile friendly version at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/m/ and click on Hearing Room A.

And let me remind you to attend the town hall that Sen. Dingfelder, Rep. Keny-Guyer, and I are holding at the Hollywood Senior Center tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 pm.  The Thursday hearing in Salem may still be going on, but we'll try to give you the latest information.

Thanks to those of you who have written with your questions and concerns.  Please keep them coming.

Michael
