Legislative Session Update

Friends,

This last Saturday marked one year since I was sworn in as the State representative for House District 60 and it has truly been an honor. While the last year has had its twists and turns for all of us, I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is a true privilege to serve you, thank you for the opportunity and for your support.

As we move into an intense legislative session, my priorities are to be your voice in Salem and to produce solutions to the big issues we’re facing as a state. Things like ensuring our students and teachers can return to school safely and soon, opening the doors of our small businesses, getting Oregonians back to work, fixing broken programs like unemployment and the vaccine-roll out, and the list goes on.

We have a heavy list of things to work on this session and we need to work together to put Oregon on the right path to a better future. I hope we can count on your input and engagement with our office—I’m here to serve and represent you.

As always, our office and our dedicated staff are here to answer your questions, direct you to the right places, and do our best to solve issues you may have. If there is anything we can do, please email us at repmarkowens@oregonlegislature.gov or call us at (503) 986-1460.

Thank you,

RO Signature

Representative Mark Owens
House District 60

Get Involved

Your direct engagement in our legislative process will make the greatest difference and have the largest impact in the outcome of legislation this session. You’ve taken the first step by being connected with our office, now here’s how to engage in other ways to get involved and make sure your voice is heard.

To learn more about committees, the status of a bill, sign up for email alerts, find other legislators and more, visit the Oregon Legislative Information System (OLIS) by clicking here.

My Committees

House and Senate Committees are where legislators tackle specific bills and issues before a bill goes to the House (or Senate) Floors for a vote.

The work we will do on these committees will be extremely important as we work to rebuild our communities and mitigate the impacts and ongoing challenges presented by COVID-19. It has never been more important that we work to provide and enhance services and build a better infrastructure.

Water, natural resources, and sustainable agricultural practices have been a priority for me throughout my career in public service, not just as a legislator, so it is an honor to be appointed Vice-Chair of the House Water Committee. I do not take this leadership role lightly and I know my colleagues and I are committed to finding solutions for the ongoing water issues in Oregon.

You can track the work I’m doing by clicking the links below where you’ll find agendas and bills, links to watch the hearings virtually, ways to sign up to participate and testify and more.

Community Conversations-Save the Dates

Senator Lynn Findley, Rep. Daniel Bonham and I are continuing our joint virtual town halls throughout the session. We have truly enjoyed hosting these and they are so helpful to us to hear from you so we can represent your voice in Salem.

We will send out the individual event invitations and registrations for each town hall so you can sign up to reserve your spot, but wanted to make sure you have them on your calendars now.

Vaccines and OHA updates

As of last week, January 25, public and private K-12 educators and staff, early childhood educators and staff, and childcare providers and staff are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.

If you work in a public or private K-12 school setting, your school district will contact you about scheduling a vaccination. If you are a childcare worker, your employer will connect you with information about scheduling a vaccine.

The chart below explains the current sequencing of vaccine distribution:
