FHWA Signs Off On US97 Environmental Document
BEND – Project managers with the Federal Highway Administration have issued a Record of Decision (ROD) for the US97 Bend North Corridor Project. This project has been in the development stage for nearly a decade and the signoff means that the environmental documentation for the project is essentially complete.
ODOT highway planners in Central Oregon (ODOT Region 4) have proposed to build a new segment of US97 just east of the current highway, to reduce congestion in the Bend north corridor area into the future. This alignment was chosen after years of research, planning, and consultations with public officials and private citizens. With the sign-off by the Federal Highway Administration, ODOT can move forward on the project, seeking funds to build it.
On the release of the ROD, Region 4 Manager Bob Bryant said, “This record of decision signifies a major milestone in establishing a long term plan for this segment of US 97. This positions us well for seeking funding to implement the plan as travel demands in the corridor increase”.
The next step for the project will be to seek funding to address the long term transportation needs on the north end of Bend as needs arise.
