OR 140 Bly Mountain project achieves major milestone
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Over Labor Day weekend a 3.5 mile stretch of OR 140 from the summit of Bly Mountain, east to Deer Run Road will be opened to traffic. Motorists will be able to use the new alignment without delays as construction crews from K & E Excavating Inc. will shut down their operations over the holiday weekend.
After Labor Day, crews will continue their work on that section of the project to complete paving, guardrail, sign installation, delineators, and erosion control measures before operations close down for the season in the late fall. Motorist can still expect delays but the majority of the 24/7 flagging and pilot car traffic control will be done for the season. Work on the section of the project from Ritter Road to the summit will continue until the seasonal shutdown but most construction operations will be off the highway.
The $24 million project is partially funded through the Jobs and Transportation Act from the 6 cent increase in the state gas tax in 2009. Construction began in July 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2016.
