Oklahoma's TSET: Keeping the Promise for Health

TSET kicks off anniversary celebration of voter approved creation of endowment trust

TSET is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the voter approval of the constitutional amendment that created Oklahoma's endowment trust for health and prevention. TSET kicked off the anniversary year celebration with a premiere screening of the organization’s history, "Oklahoma’s TSET: Keeping the Promise for Health." Earlier this month, the TSET Board of Directors, staff, grantees and thought leaders that sparked the endowment’s creation reunited at the anniversary celebratory event. Voters approved the constitutional amendment that created the trust in November 2000.

The 27-minute documentary, scheduled to air on OETA statewide Jan. 15 at 7 pm, highlights the strategic decision to constitutionally protect funds received from the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) and how the creation of the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) has helped transform the health of Oklahoma.

The documentary will re-air on OETA Jan. 25 at 11:30 am.

Quit for a Day. Quit for Life. #LIVEWITHOUTIT

On November 20, tobacco users were encouraged to quit for a day or quit for life and celebrate the Great American Smokeout (GASO) alongside the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.

This day-long event sponsored by the American Cancer Society encourages smokers and smokeless tobacco users to take the first steps toward quitting for good. TSET's Communities of Excellence grantees celebrated the holiday with a variety of activities including a 5K race, setting up quit stations throughout the county, partnering with hospitals to educate physicians and patients about OTH and other cessation services, and creating free quit kits to pass out at sporting events.

Great American Smokeout: Quitting Takes Practice

Tracey

Quitting takes practice. There’s a rule of thumb in tobacco cessation that it takes multiple quit attempts before most people quit for good. That’s why the theme for the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout is to “Quit for a day, quit for life.” Across the state this month, coalitions and community groups are educating the public on the benefits of ending tobacco use and encouraging smokers and smokeless tobacco users to quit or set a quit date and put a plan in place.
