OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahomans on Medicare could save thousands by reviewing their Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan. The deadline for switching plans is Dec. 7.

“Time is running out to compare plans,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “I encourage seniors to call our Medicare Assistance Program for a free review that could lead to improved coverage, significant savings, or both.”

The Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) provides free and unbiased help from certified counselors. Seniors can call 1-800-763-2828 to speak to a counselor to get answers about their Medicare coverage. Callers can also be referred to trained counselors located around the state who can provide assistance in their local communities.

Counselors can answer questions about switching Part D prescription drug coverage or Medicare Advantage plans. MAP counselors can also help Oklahomans on limited incomes determine whether they qualify for extra help in paying for prescription drugs.

Last year, after partnering with other agencies, MAP assisted more than 22,000 Oklahomans. One individual was able to save more than $36,000 by comparing Part D prescription drug plans and switching to a plan that provided better coverage at a better price.
