SH-49 narrows near the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near
Medicine Park beginning Monday
SH-49 will be narrowed to one lane from near the east
entrance of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to the SH-58 junction daily
during daylight hours from February 1 through mid-summer, weather permitting,
for a widening and resurfacing project. Flaggers
and pilot cars will be directing traffic during daylight hours. Drivers should expect
delays and be alert to workers and equipment near the roadway.
The
more than $3.5 million contract for adding shoulders and resurfacing the
existing driving lanes was awarded to LaForge and Budd Construction Company,
Inc. of Parsons, KS. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is partnering
with the Central Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway
Administration on the construction. The contract also includes work to be
performed on the Wildlife Refuge. All work is expected to complete in mid-summer
2016.
