There are several items on the agenda for the next Governor’s Council Meeting. Secretary of Science and Technology, Dr. Steven McKeever will make a presentation on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Also included will be a Council Roundtable Discussion on Employer Best Practice and Skill Needs.
The next meeting is Friday, August 2 at 9am on the campus of OSU-OKC.
Gov. Mary Fallin recently named CareerTech Director Robert Sommers to serve on her Cabinet as secretary of education and workforce development. Sommers is a member of the Governor’s Council. Read More
State Superintendent Janet Barresi announced Oklahoma’s 2014 Teacher of the Year finalists during the State Department of Education’s annual Vision 2020 conference.
The winner represents Oklahoma in the national Teacher of the Year competition, receives more than $50,000 in cash and prizes from generous donors, and serves as Oklahoma’s “Ambassador of Teaching,” presenting to teachers and civic groups throughout the state for one year. Meet the finalists
Oklahoma school districts will see an increase in per-pupil funding of $8.60 per student. The initial allocation for FY14 is $3,038.60 per student as opposed to the $3,030.00 received for FY13.
Contributing most to the increase in FY14 state aid allocations is the State Department of Education’s receipt of an additional $21.5 million in funding for state aid to schools during this past legislative session. Read More
Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment lost 2,500 jobs in June. Over the previous 12 months, Oklahoma has added 13,100 jobs. The state’s unemployment rate also increased to 5.2%. Read More
