Ohio House Appalachian Caucus Convenes First Meeting of the 136th General Assembly
State Representative Kevin Ritter and I recently announced the formation of the Appalachian Caucus, a bi-cameral, bipartisan gathering of state legislators serving Appalachia. We were chosen by the members as the co-chairs of the Caucus.
This group will work collaboratively to advance policies that will enhance the region’s economy and overall quality of life.
The best policy is formed through collaboration. Together, as a caucus, we hope to share ideas, discuss challenges, and craft solutions for the betterment of Appalachian counties through Ohio.
Members of the caucus include:
- State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (Chair)
- State Rep. Kevin Ritter (Chair)
- State Rep. Adam Bird
- State Rep. Bob Peterson

Rep. Pizzulli Votes on Fiscally Responsible Budget Plan for Ohioans
I proudly voted in support of the conference committee report for Am. Sub. House Bill 96 –the State Operating Budget. The budget plan, which allocates funding for state programs and operations for the next two years, includes provisions that aim to protect freedom, family and fiscal responsibility.
House Committee Begins Hearings on PURE LIFE Act
Representative Robb Blasdel and I recently provided sponsor testimony before the House General Government Committee on the Protecting Utility and Resources for Enhanced Living, Improved Food, and Environment (PURE LIFE) Act.
House Bill 272 will ban a targeted list of harmful food additives, restrict PFAS—commonly known as “forever chemicals”—in consumer products, restore local control over water fluorination by repealing a current state-level mandate, and prohibit cloud seeding.
By aligning with successful policies from across the nation, this legislation promotes transparency, prioritizes public health, and restores local decision-making authority.
House Bill 272 awaits further consideration from the House General Government Committee.
House Bill 58
This legislation has received three hearings in the House Community Revitalization Committee. The bill will address Ohio’s unregulated recovery housing industry by empowering the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to establish a certificate of need program to assess and set the appropriate level of recovery housing in each Ohio region to ensure a fair distribution of services statewide.
Adams County Day at the Ohio Statehouse
We heard from some great speakers and had meaningful conversations during Adams County Day at the Statehouse. Thank you to everyone who made the trip to advocate for our county. Your voice and presence matter—Southern Ohio deserves to be heard!

Bear Tracks Graduation Ceremony
I was honored to speak at the Bear Tracks graduation at Shawnee State University.
These students gave up part of their summer to live on campus, go through trainings for careers, and build a better future for themselves and for southern Ohio. From EMT and phlebotomy to manufacturing, ethical hacking, and more, this group showed what grit really looks like.
The future of our region isn’t leaving. It’s building. And it’s starting with students like these.
True Lure Trout Derby
I had the pleasure of joining the True Lure Trout Derby — they do incredible work supporting kids and veterans. We shared good times, and I even got to meet the Gator Man himself!
