Job Fairs to be Held in May
May 7, 2013, Columbus, OH - Columbus City Schools Transportation Department is hiring!If you are safety-minded and interested in a career working with young people, then Columbus City Schools would like you to join the driving force in education and becoming a fully-qualified school bus driver.
The District's Transportation Department is expanding its routes for the 2013-2014 school year, and hiring bus drivers as District employees.As a result of the increased routes, there are more than 300 positions available for individuals with good driving records, customer service skills, and a desire to join a stable and growing organization.The department is also looking for qualified candidates to fill the following positions: Bus Driver trainee, Intervention Aide; Mechanic I & II; and Transportation Supervisor.
The transportation of students to and from school is an integral part of a sound educational program.Competent school bus drivers are needed to provide safe and efficient transportation for District students.Free classroom and behind-the-wheel training will be provided; preparing candidates for the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) written and road examinations.The District offers competitive wages and benefits.Candidates can expect job stability and professional growth for the long haul.
FREE TRAINING is also available for those without experience who want to become professional school bus drivers.Our training program consists of classroom and behind-the-wheel instructions, preparing bus drivers for the CDL written and road examinations.

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and five years of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
Possession of a valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with School Bus
Passenger (SP) endorsement and air brake qualification.
Possession of a valid certificate of completion for the Pre-Service Driver Training issued by the Ohio Department of Education for school bus drivers.
A good driving record—no more than 4 points in most recent two years as demonstrated by a State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle record abstract; and no instances of operating a motor while under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the past five years.
Possession of a valid Ohio vehicle operator’s license.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one (1) year of experience in maintaining control of and teaching appropriate behavior to emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in residential or non-residential programs and facilities or one (1) year as a Child Care Attendant with the Columbus City Schools or comparable experience elsewhere.
Substitutions (s): an associate’s degree in mental health/chemical dependency and mental retardation technology or equivalent may be substituted for the required experience.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and four years experience as an automotive mechanic, one year of which must have been at the journey level.
Possession of a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) temporary permit.A Commercial Driver’s License with class A endorsement must be obtained within 90 days after appointment.
Paid training for the CDL will be provided by the Columbus Board of Education. Note: An official transcript, Certificate of Completion, or diploma must be presented, in order to receive credit for any post high school or vocational training (education).It is the responsibility of the applicant to list all relevant work experience on his/her application.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and six (6) years of experience as an automotive mechanic, three (3) years of which must have been at the journey level, and two (2) years of which must have been repairing medium or heavy duty (19,000-26,000 GVW) buses or trucks; or two (2) years as a Bus Mechanic 1 with the Columbus Board of Education.
Possession of a valid Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Temporary Permit.
A Commercial Driver’s License with Class A Endorsement must be obtained within 90 days after appointment.
Possession of a valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with School Bus Passenger (SP) endorsement and air brake qualification.
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade and five (5) years of related transportation management experience which include supervisory responsibilities.

School bus drivers hired by the Columbus City Schools (CCS) Transportation Department must meet standards developed by CCS and state law.All potential employees are subject to a criminal history record check, work history/personal background check, and are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing before being hired.A driver must also pass an annual physical examination.Columbus City Schools will help provide training for obtaining a C.D.L. license and the required (12) hour bus driver certification course.
