This July, take time to explore all that Columbus Recreation and Parks has to offer. You’ll find something new that’s perfect for you!
Did you know that the City of Columbus and Franklin County completed the first comprehensive study of the region’s tree canopy and its changes from 2011 to 2021? The Tree Canopy Assessment measures the land covered by trees, highlighting changes and areas for potential planting. The findings will help prioritize, expand and grow the tree canopy, which is critical to address future population growth, development pressures, climate change and public health challenges.
Other Urban Forestry Master Plan updates include:
- Finalizing the Tree Technical Manual to support the updated public tree code
- Naming the first female City forester, Rosalie Hendon
- Planting more than 2,300 trees this past spring
- Holding the first meeting of the Columbus Tree Coalition
These efforts are part of the Urban Forestry Master Plan and underscore our commitment to creating a greener, healthier future for Columbus. Learn more about the Tree Canopy Assessment and other recent accomplishments as we continue to work toward enhancing our urban forest!
