Climate Smart Communities Webinar

Micro-grids, Combined Heat and Power Plants, and Distributed Energy

10:30 a.m., October 9, 2014

On October 9, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., the Climate Smart Communities program will provide the first of two webinars on community energy options. Staff from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the Pace Law School Energy and Climate Center will present “Micro-grids, Combined Heat and Power Plants, and Distributed Energy.” Microgrids are a group of interconnected energy resources and energy users capable of operating both while connected to the larger energy grid and independently. They offer reliability and improved efficiency, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs. Combined heat and power plants generate electricity while capturing heat and putting it to productive use. CHP plants and other distributed energy may provide communities with opportunities to reduce local energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions by allowing a much more efficient use of fuels than do more conventional systems. The presentations will provide an overview of microgrids, CHP plants and distributed energy; the opportunities and challenges they present; and available funding.

The webinar will be accessible to anyone via an Internet connection and telephone. Webinar participants must use the telephone call-in number; no audio signal will be transmitted over the Internet. To join the webinar, go to http://www.webdialogs.com, click the “Join a meeting” button and enter Conference ID 58089 in the “Meeting Login” screen. On your telephone, dial 1-866-394-2346 and enter conference call code 1982360347# when prompted.

Please respond with both your name and community affiliation via either e-mail or telephone to the Office of Climate Change at climatechange@dec.ny.gov or 518-402-8323. In the event that we have to cancel or postpone this webinar respondents will be notified.
