Trout Unlimited Chapter to Host Beginner Fly Fishing Event for Women

Syracuse, N.Y. – Imagine standing in a stream, peacefully casting your line into the current … reading the water as you study the insects around you … thinking like a fish! The local chapter of Trout Unlimited will present a two-day beginner fly fishing seminar for women Sept. 6 and 7 at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery in Elbridge, N.Y.

Participants will learn the basics of fly fishing, with topics to include fly tying, stream entomology, equipment set up and casting. There will also be time for fly fishing with experienced guides on a nearby stream. Equipment can be provided if needed.

This will be the 2nd annual event of its kind hosted by the Iroquois TU 002 Chapter. The seminar will be led by instructor Vicky Lane, a licensed New York State fishing guide and Iroquois Chapter board member. A group of women and men volunteers will be on hand to provide one-to-one instruction.

Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required. Cost is $60 for the weekend (overnight lodging not included). If interested, please email jsherlockfishman@gmail.com or call (315) 243-7667.
