Never tried snowshoeing before? Now is the time to learn!
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is partnering with Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to offer a Women’s Learn to Snowshoe Workshop.
Date: Saturday, February 6, 2016 Time: 9:30 am (get there a little early if you need to rent snowshoes) Place: Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar, NY 12054 (Albany County, just south of the City of Albany) Cost: Free, except for snowshoe rental Who: Women age 18 and older Space is limited. Registration required (see below).
We’ll go over the basics of how to put snowshoes on (and take them off), walk and turn while we’re indoors. Then we’ll venture outside to put our new skills to work on a short walk along portions of the Old Field and Wild Turkey Trail. The class itself will probably be done by 11:30 am, but once you get the hang of it you are free to explore the many beautiful trails at Five Rivers on your own.
Snowshoes rentals are available at Five Rivers for a fee of $5.00 (you can use the snowshoes until 4 pm) or bring your own snowshoes. If there is not 6” of snow on the ground on February 6th the program will be cancelled.
