Public Release of the Geographic Information Gateway

It brings us great pleasure to pass along this Secretary of State’s Press Release regarding the Geographic Information Gateway (Gateway) - a new interactive website that allows the public to access the NYS Department of State Office of Planning & Development’s geographic data. The Gateway includes access to over 400 datasets related to the Atlantic Ocean and community resilience, a map viewer, and interactive stories describing how the Office uses geospatial information in its planning & development efforts.

The Gateway was developed to update and replace an earlier Atlas, but has resulted in something much greater than the sum of its parts. Please visit the Gateway to check it out for yourself. DOS will be hosting two webinars on the use of the Gateway on Tuesday October 6th 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and October 15th 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Interested parties can sign up for one of these webinars by contacting Jeff Herter at jeff.herter@dos.ny.gov.

Currently, the website hosts only a few Great Lakes datasets; however, over the course of the next year, the Gateway will expand to include data, information, and interactive stories related to the Great Lakes region. Stay tuned for updates and we hope that you find this resource helpful in your Great Lakes planning efforts!
