Steuben County Resident Charged by DEC Officers

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers arrested Robert D Buckley, Sr., 69, of Green Meadow Acres Trailer Court in the town of Campbell on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and charged him with harassment, a violation, reckless endangerment and obstruction of government administration, both misdemeanors.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sept. 9 when Buckley verbally and physically confronted two DEC staff members who were investigating dust complaints related to a permitted mine.

DEC Regional Director Paul D'Amato, stated, "It is unfortunate that there are individuals who erroneously believe that confronting and harassing DEC inspectors as they are in the field performing their duties constitutes acceptable behavior. These charges should serve as a reminder to everyone that this type of conduct will not be tolerated."

Buckley was arraigned in the Town of Erwin court, pleaded not guilty and posted $1,500 bail. An order of protection was also issued. He is due back in the local Town of Campbell criminal court in October.
