All individuals 75 years of age and older, individuals 16 or older with underlying medical conditions that place them at greater risk from COVID-19, frontline essential workers who cannot work remotely, and vulnerable populations.
New Mexicans may now order free, at-home, self-administered COVID-19 saliva tests, with accurate laboratory-confirmed results returned within 24-48 hours of receipt of the sample.
The free tests are available to New Mexico residents regardless of exposure risk– whether they are symptomatic or asymptomatic, and whether they have come into close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive individual or not.
Any New Mexican with access to online video-conferencing through Zoom can receive a test at home, self-administer the test with a virtual testing supervisor through a secure Zoom, and mail the sample back for laboratory processing, all free of charge.
The breakthrough in testing convenience for New Mexicans is a result of a public-private partnership between the state and Vault Health.
To order a test, and for more information, visit learn.vaulthealth.com/nm/.
Do you know the difference between self-isolation and self-quarantine?
The answer to this question and many more are in the Policies for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19. Click here to learn more.

Are you paying your Bernalillo County property taxes on a monthly pre-payment plan?
|
Here’s what you need to know:
- The 2020 monthly payment program ends in March.
- In early May, we’ll send you all the information for the new 2021 pre-payments such as the yearly agreement to sign and return to us and the payment coupons. It’s that easy and there is no service fee for this program!
- We will estimate the 2021 taxes and break them into 10 monthly payments. The first nine payments will equal 10% of the total tax estimate and the final payment will be the remaining balance.
The Treasurer’s Office continues to work diligently for Bernalillo County residents. To speak to a customer service representative, call 505-468-7031. Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Authority have all joined together by amending all procurement codes giving a 5% preference to businesses that have no pay gap between male and female employees.
Simply stated, the 5% initiative means businesses that wish to be granted a contract with any of the three governmental agencies can receive the 5% preference if they can show that men and women, performing the same work or that have similar positions within their businesses or organizations, are paid the same amount for their work.
The equal pay preference means that a company’s bid will be considered 5% lower if equal pay is proven, or if submitting a proposal, an additional 5% will be added to the total possible points or the total weight of all the factors used in evaluating the proposals. An example: The company bid is $100,000, but with the proven preference, the bid is considered to be $95,000 and is compared with other bids at this level, or when submitting a proposal that has been assigned a total possible points of 100, an additional 5 points will be added to the overall evaluation score the company receives.
Currently, three companies meet the gender pay equity preference and are either registered vendors or are currently doing business with the city, county or water utility authority.
They are:
- Jack B. Henderson Construction Company, Inc.
- Duke City Builders
- Eagle Rock Contracting, Inc.
The gender-pay equity amendment will be implemented and recognized by all the agencies on Jan. 25.

Virtual Session Impacts Traditional Advocacy Methods
The Bernalillo County Board of County Commissioners routinely develops, discusses and approves legislative policy and capital outlay priorities for the county before the legislative session begins each year. Providing support and advocacy for these priorities is anything but routine this year with the state capitol closed to in-person public access and widespread use of videoconferencing. In lieu of in-person public access, the board is requesting public involvement and support by telephone and email.
The county’s legislative policy priorities for the first session of the 55th legislature are expressed in Administrative Resolution No. 2021-3. The county’s legislative capital outlay priorities are expressed in Administrative Resolution No. 2021-4. The board approved both resolutions on January 12, 2021.
Constituents can find these documents at Bernco.gov and will find contact information for state legislators on the New Mexico Legislature website. If a member of the public has a question for Bernalillo County about any resolution item, please call Chief of Staff to the County Manager Clay Campbell at 505-681-2616.

Snow is in the forecast!
Stay informed about winter road conditions at
Bernalillo County is diverse in its beauty - and it's also diverse in its weather conditions.
What could be a beautiful day in the South Valley could be a snow-packed day in the East Mountains or other areas.
During business hours and after hours, the regular main number (505) 848-1503 is the most direct access to the maintenance district supervisors. Call this phone number when you want to report a road that requires maintenance. As always, please call 911 when it is an emergency.
There are four separate maintenance districts, North Valley, South Valley, North Mountain and South Mountain Districts. In the mountain districts, the dividing line is Old 66 (NM 333), not Interstate 40.
For information on roads statewide, including interstates and major roads, the State of New Mexico's Department of Transportation has several ways to access information. The Road Advisory Hotline is available 24/7 by calling 511. You can also visit http://nmroads.com for an interactive map of road conditions and to sign up for email/text alerts, or download the mobile app at http://m.nmroads.com

Bernalillo County works diligently to communicate with all employees when an emergency happens. Emergency Management installed a “code red” system that alerts employees of vital information such a delays, weather events, county incidents or emergencies. When an employee signs up to receive these alerts, the Code Red system sends an email, text or voice recorded message to the employee’s phone or email as soon as the incident occurs. Speed of communication is vital. The department prides itself on the accuracy of the notifications. Their target is 96% accuracy and you can see that they are exceeding that goal! Way to go!
