Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Tuesday announced New Mexicans may now order free, at-home, self-administered COVID-19 saliva tests, with accurate laboratory-confirmed results returned within 24-48 hours of receipt of the sample.
The free tests are available to New Mexico residents regardless of exposure risk– whether they are symptomatic or asymptomatic, and whether they have come into close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive individual or not.
Any New Mexican with access to online video-conferencing through Zoom can receive a test at home, self-administer the test with a virtual testing supervisor through a secure Zoom, and mail the sample back for laboratory processing, all free of charge.

Donations have been made to Roadrunner Food Bank, S.A.F.E. House, Barrett House, and the wellness hotel through Locker #505. The wellness hotel is a temporary housing initiative between Bernalillo County, the State of New Mexico, and the City of Albuquerque providing shelter to coronavirus (COVID-19)-negative families who are experiencing homelessness.
- The monetary distributions are as follows:
- Roadrunner Food Bank $12,500
- Locker #505 $12,625
- S.A.F.E. House $ 4,875
- Barrett House $ 2,500
Along with the monetary donations, Bernalillo County is also providing case management services to the families living at the wellness hotel. Those services include behavioral health, physical health and dental care assistance, as needed.

The Tiny Home Village (THV) has received a donation of 30 queen-sized mattresses from the local stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. (CJCLDS)
THV is a housing initiative designed to assist those individuals experiencing homelessness in the Albuquerque area. The Tiny Home Village consists of 30 residential homes of roughly 120 square feet per unit, and a central gathering house that residents can use for cooking meals, washing laundry, and as a general gathering place for communal activities.
|
CJCLDS got involved with the THV project as part of the church’s philanthropic mission and the continued support of community projects and organizations.
The mattresses were secured through the CJCLDS mattress factory in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tiny Home Village is in the process of screening and accepting the first residents. The official ribbon-cutting to present the village to the public is set for early 2021. Tiny Home Village is a project of Bernalillo County in partnership with and Albuquerque Indian Center in southeast Albuquerque.

Bernalillo County’s Public Art Board is supporting the creative economy through its proposals process as artists continue to face the economic challenges caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2020 calendar year is Dec. 31.
Artists can submit proposals for a variety of media and styles including two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. There is a limit of three artworks per artist proposal. Submissions received through Dec. 31 will be reviewed at the February Arts Board meeting. Submissions received on or after Jan. 1, 2021 through May 31, 2021 will be reviewed at the July Arts Board meeting.
New Mexico is known throughout the world for its diverse and innovative creative community and the county’s art in public places ordinance sets aside 1% of the budget of capital improvement projects for works of art. Additionally, surplus funding from capital projects goes towards the 1% for the arts common fund which allows the county to purchase art for publicly accessible facilities through an unsolicited proposals process.
Artists can find the information and criteria to submit at: https://www.bernco.gov/community-services/public-art-program.aspx.
In 2021, the Bernalillo County Public Art program is moving forward with capital improvement projects for works of art. Projects include the second phase of the “Outposts” public art project, the South Valley Pool, Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square, Bridge Boulevard and the Sunport Boulevard reconstruction project.
For more information about the unsolicited proposals process or the Bernalillo County Public Art Program, contact Kent Swanson, Bernalillo County public art coordinator, kswanson@bernco.gov.

The Strategic Plan is the county’s 2-year plan that captures what departments are doing to support the strategic plan goals…each with key focus areas from planning for emergencies to expanding online services. The county follows the performance process across the 2-years to ensure we are measuring what matters and making that data available to the community.

It is our goal to make sure we are doing the right things to meet the needs of the community. With that in mind, we’ve created a short survey to collect valuable feedback from residents. If you’d like to provide feedback about the strategic plan complete this survey.

The Bernalillo County Arts Board solicits a call for artists to propose conceptual sketch ideas for outdoor sculpture to be located along highly visible avenues and boulevards within Bernalillo County, New Mexico.
Regional artists residing in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and Texas are invited to propose conceptual mid-size sculptures. The call for art opened Dec. 1, 2020. The deadline is Jan. 29, 2021.
The project, aptly named “Outposts,” is conceived by the Bernalillo County Arts Board and evolved from an idea of combining the duality of the communities of Bernalillo County and the Southwestern region to include the co-existence of mountains and the valley, the urban and the rural communities, the monsoon season and the dry season and the ancient and modern cultures of the area.
The artworks for Phase II will be installed near highly visited tourist and local attractions within Bernalillo County and the city of Albuquerque, such as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Park and the Rio Grande Valley State Park. Read More....
