Effectiveness’ Guide to “Getting the Most from Online Professional
Development”
Self-paced

If you’re looking for
ways to use online professional development more collaboratively, look no further. The modules in the

way that best suits their resources, calendars, and professional development
implementation plans.
Educator Effectiveness’ newly updated online guide, “Getting
the Most from Online PD” describes six different models for implementation
at the district level, including best practices and facilitation strategies.
The guide is available online at http://rt3nc.org/pubs/impguide/.

Check Out Innovative Practices Explored by North Carolina Teachers
Looking for cool ideas about teaching and learning from your colleagues in the county next door or across the state?
Through the work of the Governor’s Teacher
Network, a database is now available of approximately 220 action research projects done
by North Carolina teachers in North Carolina classrooms.
The portal allows projects to be filtered by grade level, subject and key words, and the content for each project includes details ranging from data collection and analysis to recommendations and conclusions.
Here's just one example: Dana Wells, a 5th grade
teacher in Henderson County, wanted to see if directly teaching her students discussion
techniques in mathematics deepened their understanding of problem solving
strategies and math concepts and increased instances of students giving correct
feedback.
With the help of her vertical math PLC, Dana proved that directly
teaching discussion techniques improved the quality of discussions and
participation in her classroom. It also fostered the use of high-yield instructional strategies.
For more details on Dana’s action research project and others
covering a wide range of topics, check out the NC Teacher Action
Research Portal today.

Maintenance Weekend Feb. 19-21
The
PowerSchool team will be making two concurrent upgrades next maintenance weekend, Feb. 19-21: a move to a new hosting environment and an
upgrade of the PowerSchool application to version 9.2. We are working to
complete both upgrades during the maintenance period.
Application Upgrade
We also will execute an upgrade of the PowerSchool application from version 8.3 to
version 9.2. This new version includes several updates that will benefit
our customers and NCDPI. These updates include a new visualizations
component for attendance and grades that will help schools identify students
based on academic performance and attendance. Also included are updates
