The Greater Raleigh
Convention and Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) invites performing and visual arts
presenters in Wake County to participate in its Cultural Presenters Forum
(CPF), a group of local practitioners who look for ways to promote the arts to visitors and locals alike.
The CPF was created over
three years ago and has worked collectively on the Bureau’s 31 Days of Art
campaigns and a shared distribution list. The group is meeting monthly to
address several dedicated objectives including shared data, collaborative
planning, integration of the 11 municipalities in Wake County and more.
If you would like to be
part of the CPF or receive more information, please contact Karen
DeSollar, assistant director of marketing at the GRCVB, at kdesollar@visitRaleigh.com.

Blog Excerpt: Free-Book Spotlight: Greatshadow (or the Story of Why I'm Married) In my last free-book spotlight on Burn Baby Burn, I
discussed how writing that book helped me grapple with the loss of my partner
Laura to cancer. Oscar Wilde wrote in Salome, “The mystery of love
is greater than the mystery of death.” Burn Baby Burn was my
attempt to say, alas, love isn’t greater than death, but that it’s still a
priceless thing, even more precious in its frailty. It’s an important message,
and a truthful one. It’s not everything I had to say on the subject of love. Neither
is Greatshadow, probably. But, the book does contain what I think
is the best love story I’ve managed to put onto paper. I’ve written elsewhere
that I owe my current marriage to writing this novel. The short version of the
story is, I met Cheryl only a few months after Laura passed away when I moved
to Hillsborough. We went out on a few dates, but then I realized I wasn’t
actually ready to date anyone and said we could just be friends. Then, unlike
99% of women I’d had that conversation with, we actually became friends. Read
