Art – Game Creators
Age: 7-10yrs. If you’ve ever wanted to design your own game where you make up the rules, the board and all the game pieces, here’s your chance! Become a toy maker and create an entire game, including the logo, box, board, playing pieces and book of rules. Then we’ll play everyone’s game on the last day of class. Michelle Davis Petelinz instructs.

Art – Miniature Bedroom 
Age: 9-11yrs. Students will construct a one-inch-scale bedroom structure, bed, dress bed, table, lamp and night table. The structure will have a window and acarpeted floor. Members of the Raleigh Miniatures Guild will instruct.

Performing Arts – Sertoma Musical Theatre Production
Age: 8-17yrs. In this two-week course, participants will build skills in acting, singing and dance and delve into musical theatre production practices as they produce and are cast in Disney’s musical Peter Pan, Jr. Instructor: Cathy Minjkives. Cathy teaches theatre and directs shows for Wake County Schools. On Saturday, July 18, the final dress rehearsal will be at 10:00am and the performance at 1:00pm.

Pottery – Handbuilding for Children
Age: 5-8yrs. Children work with real clay and learn pottery construction methods such as pinch, coil and slab to form their own unique creations. Pieces will be glazed during the last class. Students can pick up finished work after course is completed. Lynn Kurisko instructs.

Painting – Beginning Acrylics for Teens
Age: 12-16yrs. Join working artist Karen Santrock as you begin your journey into the wonderful world of acrylic painting. Learn basic techniques and explore the art of color mixing, paint application and composition.

Drawing – Zentangle for Beginners
Age: 10yrs and up. The Zentangle Art Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Painting – Ready, Set, Go – LARGE!
Age: 16yrs and up. Fun and liberation await! Let go of preconceived notions of what art is or isn’t. Join us for six classes exploring different mediums and tools. Supply fee of $15 covers a sampling of textures to be used with your paints. Prior painting experience not necessary. Santrock instructs. Supply list

Photography – Creative Outdoor Lighting
Age: 15yrs and up. Even when we are outdoors, we are in control of the shape of the light in our photographs. Outdoor lighting has unique challenges. This class gives us the opportunity to go outdoors and practice creating a variety of lighting situations to produce our best images. Bring your digital camera equipment. Shaun King instructs.

Pottery – Handbuilding: Continuing
Age: 16yrs and up. Through a combination of demonstrations and individual work time, students will further develop their handbuilding skills while making distinctive pieces including planters, unique boxes and tile. The variety of construction techniques used include soft slabs, stiff slabs and coils. Students will learn to add flair and professionalism to their pieces by adding finishing touches such as feet and handles. This class will also help individuals develop and express their own unique style through clay. Prerequisite: Beginning Handbuilding class at Sertoma or Pullen Arts or comparable experience. Students who are new to Sertoma must attend the first class, which covers safety and studio orientation, as well as the glazing class (approximately the fifth class) in order to qualify for a studio card. Tim Cherry instructs Tuesdays. Steve Karloski instructs Thursdays.

Art – Workshop: Creative Wake Up
Age: 15yrs and up. This morning and afternoon program gives you a complete foundation in drawing and watercolor. It’s an overhaul for how you think about the world and yourself. You’ll learn all about the basic ways to work with line and color while overcoming fear and insecurity. You’ll leave the workshop seeing the world in a whole new light. Class breaks one hour for lunch. Supplies are included. Suzanne McDermott instructs.

Painting – Workshop: Oils and Cold Wax
Age: 16yrs and up. Join us for a fun and creative workshop using cold wax and oils on gesso board. Creativity is bound to emerge! We will be playing with texture and color to create our own diptych masterpieces. $15 supply fee is due to instructor. Karen Santrock instructs. Supply list

Paper – Workshop: Paper Weaving
Age: 15yrs and up. Discover the craft of paper weaving! In this workshop we will learn how to create exciting paper woven pieces. We will focus on different types of paper to use in weavings, including paper you will personally paint. We will also look at different weaving structures. Supplies are included but feel free to bring some of your own paper if you prefer. Kendal Draper instructs.

Pottery – Workshop: Electric Kilns: Setup and Maintenance
Age: 16yrs and up. This workshop is designed for potters who are considering buying an electric kiln and for those who own one and want to learn how to get the most use out of it. Types of electric kilns, features, site selection, firing cycles and safety are covered. (This class does not qualify for studio card purchase.) Randy Hinson instructs.
