Animal Kneads Day & Celebrity Bake-Off Success!

Animal Kneads Day

Animal Care & Control Volunteers working the counter at the 7th Annual Animal Kneads Day.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control is proud to share the success of the Great Harvest Bread Company’s 7th Annual Animal Kneads Day Fundraiser. Nearly $17,123.00 was raised to support the Animal Care & Control’s Public Spay & Neuter clinics which provides free spay/neuter surgeries to Mecklenburg County pet owners who are in need of assistance with having their pets sterilized.  Many thanks to Jeff and Janet Ganoung, owners of the Great Harvest, and their staff for making Animal Kneads Day possible.  Thanks to Julene Kautzman, owner of Zoom Room, and her staff for hosting the Celebrity Bake-Off and special thanks to Judy Clark for all of her work on both events.

Gazebo donated for "The Parker Play Yard"

parker play yard gazebo

A gazebo was presented by Animal Care & Control Volunteer, Elizabeth Jones in memory of her parents Ricky & Bobbie Jones.  The gazebo was dedicated on September 12, 2013.  This gazebo provides much needed shade for the dogs and their humans, as well as creating a nice area to socialize and train the dogs!

A Sticky Situation!

aco capps racoon rescue

Q: What happens when a raccoon tries to eat peanut butter out of a jar?

A: Its head gets stuck!

Never fear! ACO Capps, along with assistance from The Charlotte Fire Department were able to capture the raccoon from its perch in a Bradford Pear tree about 25 feet up, they removed the jar and set the raccoon free!  The raccoon was not injured and happy to be free of the jar!  All in a days work Officer Capps!  Good Job!

What is the most popular dog name in the Queen City?

WCNC's Jeremy Markovich recently worked with Animal Care & Control's Public Information Specialist, Melissa Knicely on gathering data on licensed dogs in Mecklenburg County.
Jeremy entered the data into a special database and was able to find out some interesting statistics on what names most Charlotteans are using to beckon their pooches?

 Ready with your guess?
