Focus on Our Customers: Mega-Multifamily Inspections Re-Organization

Introducing Mega-Multifamily Inspections

We're pleased to share with our customers a new inspections service stream that focuses on the specialized needs of our mega and multifamily customers.

Since Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement's last inspections team reorganization in 2010, much has changed in the local design and construction environment:

A significant number of large, or mega, projects are on the drawing boards or under construction in and around Charlotte,
A multi-family construction boom is under way in the region, and
State building codes are becoming far more specialized from changes approved by the N.C. Building Code Council.

To serve our customers better, Code Enforcement will realign its inspections teams over the next two years. We're starting with a Mega-Multifamily Inspections Team, which will focus on our most complex projects, including mid- or high-rise multifamily projects. This new service stream will launch June 29, 2015.

Mega-Multifamily inspectors will stay with a project from the first inspection to the final. They'll be more available to contractors and owner-developers, because their sole focus will be mega and multifamily projects.

Future plans include reorganizing the North and South Inspections teams into Residential and Non-Mega Commercial teams.

How Mega-Multifamily Inspections Help ALL Our Customers

We know Mega-Multifamily Inspections will have immediate benefits for customers in the program:

This is a targeted inspections resource for our customers' most complex projects.
Individualized attention from inspectors will increase consistency.
This model more closely aligns with the development trend in the area.
Individualized attention will mean improved communication with the owner's team over the course of the project.
Specialized teams may be able to expedite the hiring and training process -- we will have more inspectors available to serve you.

But our customers who will still be served by the North and South Inspections Teams will also see some benefits right away:

North and South Team inspectors will be able to focus immediately on residential and non-mega commercial, which means those customers will also receive more individualized attention.
That attention will increase in Phase II, slated for 2016, when the North and South Inspections teams further specialize into residential and non-mega commercial projects.
This specialization will bring about increased consistency and more active communication between our inspectors and our customers.
