MPRB Seeks Implementation Team Members for Urban Agriculture Activity Plan

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Urban Agriculture Activity Plan was developed through an extensive community engagement process. The plan contains recommendations related to policy, facility, program, and service improvements to better support urban agriculture within the parks. The Board of Commissioners supports establishment of an implementation team to fulfill the goals of the plan. The role of the implementation team is to guide project planning and implementation, provide project oversight, and communicate team progress among a broad audience of stakeholders. The work of the Implementation team will guide the plan’s implementation for many years ahead.

The MPRB is now accepting applications from Minneapolis residents for three appointed positions on this team. Applications are due April 20, 2015. Appointment notifications will be made shortly thereafter. For more information about this team, read the Team Charter. Questions? Craft Beer, Feta Cheese & A Side of Food Law! Building Successful Business Relationships

Tuesday, March 31 | 5:00-7:00pm

Eastlake Craft Brewery, Midtown Global Market

This workshop will feature Mike Rakes, owner of local feta cheese spread brand Philia Foods. Mike will share his experience creating successful relationships with key players in the good food business universe including co-packers, suppliers, retailers, and farmers' markets. In addition, Jambor Heyman attorneys Jen & Amanda will provide attendees with useful strategies for using contracts to create a roadmap for mutually beneficial business relationships. Packaging Fair for Food Businesses

Over 200 people attended the city's Packaging Fair for Food Businesses in early March to learn about packaging changes required by the city's Green To Go ordinance. The second packaging fair, sponsored by the Lake Street Council on April 2, offers food businesses another chance to meet with packaging vendors, learn about the ordinance, and find out about Hennepin County business recycling grants. 2015 Aquaponics Symposium

This first ever symposium on aquaponics in Minnesota will bring together a diverse audience to discuss topics in food safety and good agriculture practices. In addition, two panel discussions will provide an opportunity for Q&A with some of the state’s technical experts and industry leaders. This symposium is intended for aquaponic producers, hobbyists, agencies, academia, food service, public health professionals, and others who work with or are interested in aquaponic production in Minnesota. Grants Alert: USDA 2015 Farmers Market & Local Food Grants

The USDA is now accepting grant applications for two local food-related programs. The goals of these programs are to increase domestic consumption of and access to locally and regionally produced agricultural products, and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets.
