Many residents have contacted our office to share concerns about the rash of vehicle and property break-ins plaguing south and southwest Minneapolis. We have been in constant contact with the Minneapolis Police Department's 5th Precinct, and have asked for some specific crime reports. We will be sharing this information over the next couple months. MPD is also actively working on some leads.
Due to the recent activity, MPD has had extra patrol details in both Linden Hills and the Fulton neighborhoods. They are in alleys looking for unsecured garages as most burglaries are occurring when doors are open and/or unlocked. When officers find them open, they try to make contact with the home owner. If they are unsuccessful, officers are leaving a bright yellow placard providing crime and safety tips on it. This has been happening all summer.
As a resident, make sure your garages, service doors and windows are locked when not in use, day or night. MPD also suggests bringing expensive bicycles into the house (these are a big ticket item all over the metro area and people can see them in the garages). Lastly, please call 911 when if you see people that are lurking around garages and homes!
