Early Mornings with Elizabeth:

Bicycling and Equity

bike

Friday, February 26, 7:30-9:00 am
Turtle Bread, 4762 Chicago Ave S

With a city-wide protected bikeway plan, an expanding list of streets with bicycle lanes, and creative plans for modifying streets to better serve walkers and bicyclists, bicycling opportunity for casual riders is on the rise in Minneapolis.

At the same time, bicycle advocates are challenged to identify how bicycling infrastructure engages the interest and attention of people of color and women and how plans for change don’t further gentrification, but benefit communities that most deserve investment.

We will be joined by Matthew Dyrdahl, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator at the City of Minneapolis, and Anthony Taylor, Adventures Director at the Loppet Foundation and co-founder of the Major Taylor Bicycling Club.  Matthew is the second to serve in the role of Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, and leads planning activities for improving and expanding our bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.  Anthony, in addition to his engagement in many local and regional planning activities for bicycling, is the owner of property at 3800 3rd Avenue South, site of a future bicycling center.

Join us for a great conversation about bicycling and bicycle planning in Minneapolis (including new proposed projects for protected bikeways) and how community can drive change in our city!
