New Minnesota Cottage Food Law Goes Into Effect!
Effective July 1, 2015, Minnesota’s Cottage Food law was updated
and expanded. Stakeholders across the state, including
the Minneapolis Health Department, worked together for months to revise this
law. With the revisions, there are changes that affect Minneapolis market
vendors.
The biggest change immediately impacting Minneapolis’ home
processors is that they are now required to register with the Minnesota Department
of Agriculture (MDA). The City of Minneapolis will no longer accept
applications. Instead, operators must submit their application to the MDA. The
City of Minneapolis recognizes the MDA needs time to approve all of the
applications. Vendors currently registered with the City of Minneapolis may
continue to operate at Minneapolis markets while the applications are
processed by MDA.
Additional changes include an increase in the amount of
allowable sales and expanded venues for selling home processed products. For more
information, please visit the MDA website: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/licensing/licensetypes/cottagefood.aspx
