Supports its Veterans & Service Members
In honor of Memorial Day, we would like to showcase some of the resources that the Missouri Department of Economic Development currently offers for Missouri’s military men and women to connect them with meaningful employment.
Missouri recognizes that individuals with military
experience have many qualities valued in Missouri’s fast-paced, high-tech
economy, including the leadership experience and integrated mentality that
Missouri employers demand.
 Show-Me Heroes
Launched by Gov. Nixon in January 2010, the Show-Me
Heroes program helps connect military veterans with job opportunities when they
return home from service. Administered by the Missouri Division of Workforce
Development in partnership with the Missouri National Guard, Show-Me Heroes
showcases Missouri businesses that appreciate the value that military
experience can bring to the workplace. Employers participating in the Show-Me
Heroes program sign a pledge to ramp up efforts to reach out to, recruit and
interview veterans for job openings at their business. To date, more than 3,900
Missouri businesses have taken the Show-Me Heroes pledge and more than 6,600
veterans have been hired!

Troops
to Teachers
The Division of Workforce
Development partners with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
to help retiring military personnel transition into careers as public school teachers in elementary, secondary, career and technical, or special education schools. This program aims to relieve teacher shortages, especially in math, science, special education and other high needs subject areas, while also assisting military personnel in making successful transitions to second careers in teaching.
