Summer Learning Tips

Mayor

“It is extremely important for kids to continue learning, even when school is no longer in session,” said Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman. “That is why I have worked together with Saint Paul Public Schools and community organizations to make accessing out-of-school learning opportunities as easy as possible for families in Saint Paul. Through Sprockets, Saint Paul’s out-of-school-time network, families have a one-stop shop for summer learning opportunities across the city.”

White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellows

F2

Our Associate Director, Erik Skold, has been selected to be a White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellow. Fourteen other leaders in the field of afterschool and expanded learning nationwide have also been selected as White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellows as part of a partnership between the Riley Institute at Furman University and the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. In the 10-month program, which begins in October, Fellows will study afterschool/expanded learning policy and develop and implement state-level policy projects in partnership with their Statewide Afterschool Networks and the national Afterschool Alliance.

Science Museum of Minnesota Youth Science Day

Youth Science Day

Join the Science Museum of Minnesota on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 12-4 p.m. as they celebrate our community's youth and their passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). An event for youth ages 13-18, it is a place for youth to join their peers in discovering and exploring an interest in STEM and their future in a STEM field!

With museum admission, you will be able to explore:

  • Interactive activities created and facilitated by youth staff from theKitty Andersen Youth Science Center, museum youth volunteers, and youth from the community.
  • Resources for college and STEM career prep.
  • Art performances by local youth groups.
  • A chance to enjoy the museum with your peers.

Summer Learning Institute

On June 11, Sprockets and our network partners hosted the Summer Learning Institute (SLI) at Metro State University. The SLI is a chance for youth workers and people in the youth work field to get together and exchange ideas.  There were over 150 people at this year’s SLI, learning everything from “Fun and Games 101” to “Creating Equity in Youth Work Spaces”.   Key your eyes open for more professional development opportunities on our website:
