St. Louis County Board hosts public budget meetings
The County Board is moving closer to finalizing the County's budget for 2016, but before they do, citizens will have two additional opportunities to provide input, and learn how the county was able to achieve a zero percent increase in the property tax levy.
Two public information meetings will be held: on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Virginia Courthouse; and Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m. in the County Board room at the Duluth Courthouse. The meetings will include a presentation about the budget and levy; as well as opportunity for the public to address the Board with questions or comments, and to meet individually with staff from the Auditor's Office for questions specific to their proposed property tax statement.
Following the public meetings, the County Board is scheduled to vote on the final levy and budget at its December 15 meeting, which will be held in Duluth. Commissioners in September set the maximum levy at $116.6 million – holding it at the same level as this year. St. Louis County is one of only a few counties in the state that was able to maintain a zero percent increase in its levy for the coming year.
